There is no way I can write quality code while listening to podcasts. Every time I try doing it, I catch myself either losing track about the conversation that’s happening on the show, or I’m realizing that I stare at the same part of the code and don’t know what is going on.
My work needs focus and over the last few months, I forgot about it. I had more and more notifications enabled, Slack was always on and my bookmarks bar was always visible, making all websites I like just one click away.
A few weeks ago I listened to Ezra Klein’s interview with Cal Newport. I deleted most of the social media apps from my phone, disabled the bookmarks bar on my browser and made a few small adjustments to my routines. My productivity skyrocketed and I really don’t think that my social life suffered that much.
What I’m trying to say is that if you feel like you didn’t make much progress on your list and it happens to you pretty often then go ahead and listen to the interview I mentioned. There is a lot of good stuff in there…
