Languages open doors. The experience of traveling with the knowledge of a local language is different than using English (or whatever your native language is). People open up to you. They accept you as more than a tourist. I definitely feel the difference now, living in Spain. Many people get by with English, but there is a huge difference in the quality and depth of my experience if I try interacting in Spanish.
Vorto is my biggest project to date. It started years ago as a part of my Master Thesis. It always revolved around vocabulary as the building block of language learning. Vorto works on iOS and pretty soon will be working as a browser app. I want it to be useful in classes during lectures, reading native source material on your own or in the moment while you are encountering new words during daily life.
You can find our iOS app here but stay tuned for a much more extensive update.
